Ford engineers understand that even experienced drivers may tense up when faced with a crowded parking lot or tight space on the street when behind the wheel of the new Ford Transit van. So, they are eliminating some of the stress with an available technology tool. Active Park Assist can help drivers of every skill level park the Ford Transit van like a pro.
“Frequent stops in busy city streets are the norm for many van drivers during the working day, and that can be a challenge in such a large vehicle where visibility can be limited,” said Ford Transit Chief Program Engineer Ian Porter. “Ford technologies like Active Park Assist help drivers and operators put their energy into their best work, and spend less time stressing about parking.”
The innovative technology is available on the Transit and Transit Custom models. Active Park Assist employs 12 ultrasonic sensors to survey objects near the van. Under proper conditions, the information pulled from the sensors helps the system determine the van’s precise positioning. Once that is calculated, the Park-Out assist feature can take over parking duties. Your only roles are hitting the gas and brake pedal when necessary, and voila! The van easily maneuvers into its parking spot.
