Without science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) education in schools here in Orlando, FL and all across America, our great nation would lose out on the ingenuity that has fueled innovative technological advances in the automotive industry. Ford Motor Company, a consistent patron of STEAM educational causes, has announced a new strategic partnership intended to promote STEAM programs.
Though Ford has an established twenty-year relationship with FIRST, a non-profit committed to advancing STEAM resources through robotics programs for school-aged children, the automaker has deepened its commitment to these programs by becoming a FIRST Strategic Partner. Since 2019, Ford directly sponsored over 200 robotics teams and provided approximately 500 employee volunteers in partnership with FIRST in addition to developing the FIRST Robotics Competitions Autonomous Awards and sponsoring FIRST’s annual championship.
Per FIRST’s President, Larry Cohen, “Ford’s dedication and involvement has spanned more than 20 years, and tens of thousands of students have been mentored by passionate Ford employees.”
Ford’s dedication to STEAM education reflects the importance of the disciplines’ impacts to the auto industry. Programs like FIRST help the upcoming generation of youth develop the kind of scientific-minded curiosity that will inspire and develop automotive technological advancements for decades to come.
