The Ford F-150 Raptor is known by many for its legendary power and off-road prowess. Many have tried to beat this adventure-ready pickup in its versatile capability, but none have succeeded. One of the latest competitors seeking to challenge the F-150 Raptor is the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. It’s set to feature a new 702-horsepower HEMI engine. However, with a new supercharged V8 on the horizon for the Ford F-150 Raptor, this little update from Ram is of no concern to the most popular pickup in America.
According to Ford Authority, the next generation Raptor is going to house the Shelby GT500’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 under its hood. This engine is expected to provide between 725-750 horsepower, which makes it the fastest street-legal Ford engine to date. That’s plenty more horses than the TRX.
There’s still no word as to when, exactly, this monster of a pickup will be available, although Ford Authority suggested it might come as soon as the end of the 2021 model year, or in the 2022 model year.
The current Ford F-150 Raptor isn’t shy about its power, either. It has a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 under its hood, boasting a significant 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. That’s the best in its class for now, and with the next-generation Raptor, Ford plans to beat the competition yet again.

There’s no other pickup like the Ford Raptor. This truck was built for off-roading through and through. From its powertrain to its suspension to every little detail, the rugged terrain is this truck’s destiny. If you’re taking a Ford Raptor or another Ford truck from Tropical Ford out off-roading for the first time this summer, use these helpful tips for off-roading to stay safe and have the most fun.
Read the Manual Before you go off-roading, you need to make sure you understand everything about your vehicle. Read your owner’s manual to learn about things like traction control and the four-wheel drive system to get a basic understanding of its capabilities.
Practice First The Ford Raptor delivers exceptional handling and excellent grip on mountain roads and twisty, rocky surfaces. But before you take the Ford Raptor out for the real deal, get a little practice in on a smaller scale first. Find small creeks, steep inclines, and gravel roads where you can get a feel for how the truck handles so you’ll be more prepared.
Bring the Right Tools Don’t just head out empty handed. Not only should you bring with you a first aid kit for your safety, but you’ll need tools for your truck’s safety too. Look into purchasing the type of tools that will help you recover should you get stuck, like a quality winch, which can pull you out of a muddy situation.

The Raptor completed the two laps on the track in 9 hours and 10 minutes, while the first, second, and third place winners of the unlimited class race were all modified Ford trucks.
The 2017 Raptor is lightweight thanks to its aluminum body, which allows it to use an EcoBoost engine that’s smaller, more powerful, and more fuel efficient than the average. Its suspension is improved from other F-150 models and it comes with off-road tires. The EcoBoost engine is paired with a 10-speed transmission and a torque-on-demand transfer case.
