Built Ford Tough: the Ford F-350 with Over One Million Miles

We know that Ford has pushed the limits on “possible” for quite some time, but even we can’t quite believe this most recent tale of automotive reliability from Ford — a 2002 Ford F-350 with more than one million miles on it.

The Ford in question belonged to Debbie Conner, who, along with her husband Norman, was in the business of transporting trailers and campers back-and-forth across the country. This profession is exactly how she was able to rack up just over 1,071,000 miles on her Ford truck between 2002 and 2018. That’s like driving to the moon and back nearly four and a half times.

Most truck owners would balk at such a high mileage, but it was a badge of honor to the Conners. It was a bittersweet moment for them both when they traded in their trusty F-350 for a 2011 Ford Super Duty F-350 in September. Currently, their new Ford is floating at around 90,000 miles and it’s doing just fine.

Gone are the days of the 100,000-mile death sentence — for Ford owners, at least.

Now, how did the Conners coax their 2002 Ford F-350 into earning more than one million miles? According to Norman, just by “doing what Ford says” and faithfully following the automaker’s suggested maintenance schedule.

“If you want to get the miles out of it,” says Norman. “You have to take care of the truck.”

The Ford Ranger Raptor Earns 4×4 of the Year in Australia

4x4 of the Year | Tropical Ford Blog | Orlando, FL

We know what it takes to take on the off-roads here in the States, and apparently so do our friends down under — the Australian Motoring Awards recently announced that the Ford Ranger Raptor is Australia’s 2019 4×4 of the Year.

The Ford Ranger Raptor features a 210-horsepower 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, Fox racing shocks, BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires, and Ford’s advanced Terrain Management System. 4×4 Australia, the magazine responsible for selecting each year’s winner, says that the Ford Ranger Raptor is an “enormously fun-to-drive, competent, and capable” off-roading vehicle, perfect “on any back road — the rougher the better — or any 4×4 track.”

Unfortunately, the all-new Ford Ranger Raptor is still unavailable in the United States, but it’s been causing a ruckus across Australia, Europe, and Asia since its release last year. You can expect to see this innovative off-roader on American back roads — and here at Tropical Ford — in the next few years, likely with the release of the next generation of Ford Ranger trucks.

Coming in a close second for the 2019 4×4 of the Year was another Ford Ranger model, the Ford Ranger XLT Bi-Turbo. The last time the title went to a Ford vehicle was in 2015, when the Ford Everest snared the top prize.
